These error messages are pretty awful! Never write UI in the first 
person, the configure script is not sentient and it can't think for 
itself, at least not yet :) e.g.

  AC_MSG_WARN([skipped APR-util at $apu_config, version not acceptable])

is better if that's appropriate.
