No, GCC is working as designed; conversion of pointer to integer is
implementation-defined behaviour (C99 section 6.3.2.3 para 6) and GCC documents
its behaviour to sign-extend if casting up to a larger-sized integer.  This is
legitimate compiler behaviour.

If Solaris has an explicit requirement for how the pointer should be packed in
the integer it needs to be documented.  Otherwise the only sane behaviouor is to
just discard the meaningless top word.

Can you get them to direct any followup for this to dev@apr?  It's a bit silly
trying to have this discussion through a third party! :)
