Thanks for the responses.
 
The ${user.name} was the answer to my problem.  I didn't know that all the Java System.getProperties()
were available in Ant.

Indeed, it is all of *Java's* System.getProperties() which is in the Ant
box, and even comes out of it if asked to :-)
