This is a general Java concept question and as such is off-topic for this list. The main reason I actually wanted to respond to your message was to inform you that Ant 1.6.3 had certain bugs that demanded almost immediate release of Ant 1.6.4, which in turn had bugs that required the quick release of Ant 1.6.5, which is considered stable and is the current version.
