Finally got around to trying the suggested changes.  However, the 
exclusions still does not occur.

You need here 4 include tags instead of one, also the specs should not
begin
here with .\ and usually you use the / in these patterns in ant on all
operating systems.

For instance <include name="com/myprogram/demo/**"/>
