Hello Rich,

In ant 1.6.3 and higher, there is a "length" condition which can be 
applied to a fileset.
So look in the documentation at :

Concept and Types
     FileSet
Core Tasks
    Conditions
       Supported Conditions
           Length
              ==> Length Task (nested fileset)
