1. how to use <buildnumber> task, can I set it to a property and later refer to its
value? I wanna keep the value in my build log file.

2. anyone knows what's the best way to keep the build log or the audit log, or just use <record>
task?

If the suffix is not known before, you could try a regexp and
<propertyregexp/> (AntContrib)
