I hate having too many places where there's a ${variable}, I like seeing the variable mentioned
in one place.

I was wondering if there is any difference in how ant treats these (maybe a diff in performance?).

The first one is just a shortcut way. I think it is just a matter of
taste. I prefer the first one to avoid too many < and > . ;-) HTH.

Sorry, in my example, the first one should have been:

> <delete includeEmptyDirs="true">
> <fileset dir="${parent.dir}/dir1"/>
> <fileset dir="${parent.dir}/dir2"/>
> </delete>

How do these compare?

Hello,

the two contrsucts are semantically different - the
first delete two dirs, whcih have nothing in common -
they are independent of each other and can be anywhere
on the filesystem; on the contrary second construct
delete two folders which have common root folder, i.e.
are subfolders of one and the same folder.

I am also inclined to the second way, but the first is
also correct.
