I've also use the regexp mapper.  For example...

<uptodate property="beans.uptodate">
	<srcfiles dir="${devsrc.dir}">
		<patternset refid="stateless.session.beans.java"/>
		<size value="0" when="more"/>
	</srcfiles>
	<mapper type="regexp" from="^(.*)\.java$$"
to="../${build.classes.dir}/\1.class"/>
</uptodate>
