lines="0" creates a duplicate file (the contents are preserved).

This will "empty" out the file?  I wrote a java class to create a new empty
file with the timestamp of the original one.  I'll have to try this later
when I have a second.  The trick is to touch a list of files in one
directory to another directory.  Imagine if touch had source and target
directory attributes.

Touch has a timestamp attribute that would make this perfect.  But I was
also looking at the copy task with a filter (tail or head), but I don't know
how to strip out all the lines.

use lines="0" on a tailfilter (and, of course,
preservelastmodified on the copy).
