well, i might have mismentioned the following:
using jwsdp-1.3's ant release resulted with misinterpreting
spaces (' ') and dots ('.') inside path environmental variable.
that is why i have replaced it (c:/jwsdp-1.3/apache-ant)
with the current release (1.54) of which from ant.apache.org.
using this version, of course, the environmental variables
(java_home, ant_home) are not set by scripts, and messages
like the following appear -

    BUILD FAILED
    file:C:/jwstutorial13/examples/jaxrpc/common/targets.xml:30: taskdef
class org.apache.catalina.ant.DeployTask cannot be found

hope you still have ideas...

After unzipping the tutorial I installed the JWSDP. Then I updated the path
variable with
    set path=<jwsdp.home>\apache-ant\bin;<jwsdp.home>\jwsdp-shared\bin

The JWSDP uses a modified ant start script: is sets JAVA_HOME, JSWDP_HOME
and ANT_HOME via another script
file. That script file is created during installation of the development
pack.

After that I hadn´t any problems with <deploy> task.

Have you installed the JWSDP?
