Subject apply inputstring ok? was (Re: passing in list of files as arguements)

Does or will 1.6 support an inputstring attribute for the <apply> task?  I 
can't use apply without being able to pass in a parameter to be used as 
stdin.  This is what I was trying  <exec executable="gpg" os="RH Linux" 
inputstring="${the_value}">
