There are other issues as well - apparently the FileList class is viewed 
as 'broken' anyway, which seems slightly radical (see the posts to bugzilla)

Basically if the concensus is that FileList is dead in the water, I 
would still like to hear whether people think the proposed functionality 
is popular.

As far as the mapper is concerned, I would think certain types of 
mapping are possible, e.g. flatten, glob & regexp, while others were 
obviously impossible as you point out - e.g. identity. That could be 
checked and aborted by an exception.
