In that bug report, Conor says:

The replacement happens here. The only question is whether to preserve the
current incorrect behaviour for backward compatibility and enable the
behaviour with an attribute or just fix it. I vote to just fix it.

Is this a legitimate work around?  I can't seem to make it happen...
