Subject Re: SCP -> Secure file transfer with ant

If you want to do something with ssh, scp, sftp you need at least a ssh
client on the NT side. There are non cygwin ssh clients, including a
commercial one (i think www.ssh.com). cygwin is free and popular and works.
cygwin is a big thing to install (the download is maybe something like 400
MB, not sure exactly how big) but once you have done it and found the FAQS
about setting up ssh and so on, it works.
It is also cool because you may want to do grep and awk and ... on your PC
files, this you can do with cygwin. The only drawback is that some cygwin
programs produce UNIX line endings in text files[even if you chose the
support of DOS line endings at setup ] creating sometimes unneeded diffs in
source files :(
scp is handling files in binary way anyway[probably in non cygwin
implementations too]. If you copy text files from PC to UNIX with scp,
everything is preserved including line endings. You need to dos2unix the
files afterwards on the UNIX end.
For pure binary files such as .class, .jar, ... there is no problem.
Cheers,
Antoine
