Dear David,
in ant 1.6alpha, there is this possibility.
You need to specify a filename for error though, even if you do not need the
error output, otherwise it is included with stdout.

I have tested this one on my PC :

<project name="exec">
<exec executable="erroroutput.bat" output="test_output" error="NUL" >
</exec>
</project>

So if you want to give it a try, download a nightly build.
