We call Ant from JSP by issuing a new java command.  Sample JSP attached.

Don't know if this is a best practice but we do it for all kinds of things
and it works ok.  The java startup time penalty is negligable because our
builds are huge. One problem is that only some errors are captured properly.
Others cause the page to hang with no explanation (usually happens only in
development, so we use file logging (-logfile) to get the output in this
case, or else just call Ant from the command line) Sample JSP attached.
