Actually moving to Ant 1.5 fixed the problem.  I finally found the bug
in bugzilla - it's number 4822 and you fixed it in a nightly build of
1.4.1.  Sorry for taking your time.

Could you please open a bug in BugZilla and attach the stack trace for
the 
out of range error (use -verbose to get the stack trace).
