Why not just use <tstamp>, then just write it out using <propertyfile>
(I'm assuming you have other properties in ${build.properties} --
otherwise, you could just <echo> it out to the file). This way, you don't
have to "clear" anything, since you're not reading in the properties file
to begin with:

  <tstamp>
  <format property="yesterday" pattern="dd MMM yyyy hh:mm"
          offset="-1" unit="day"/>
  </tstamp>
  <entry key="yesterday" value="${yesterday}/>
