The problem wth StuffIt Expander is that it truncates filenames longer 
than 33 characters. Untar GNU tar files with gnutar, and you won't have 
this problem. (OS X includes gnutar. Just gnutar xf (or xzf) your file, 
and everything will be fine.

The 'tar' that OS X ships with is not GNU tar, but 'gnutar' is.
