A couple of thoughts ...

1. Try this with a different VM - it might be a VM bug.

2. Do you have enough disk space?

3. Have you tried running jar standalone and seeing if you get the same error?

4. Have you tried checking out  the very latest 1.5 ant from the CVS 
repository and building it from source to see if it still has the same 
errors. With this in hand you also have a chance to debug it.
