Here is a little script I add in /etc/profile.d/java.sh :

#!/bin/bash

if [ -d /opt/IBMJava2-131/bin ]; then
    if [ -z ${JAVA_HOME} ]; then
        export JAVA_HOME=/opt/IBMJava2-131
        export PATH=$JAVA_HOME/bin:$JAVA_HOME/jre/bin:$PATH
        export CLASSPATH=$CLASSPATH:$HOME
    fi
fi

Replace /opt/IBMJava2-131 by the location of your
prefered JDK
