But most likely, you could get away by using the jre just by having
tools.jar (>1.2) from the jdk in the classpath. Ant bypasses the exe's to
call directly the java classes being these tools... --DD

Yes.  From the top of my head, <rmic> and <javah> and probably
others.  Basically all tasks that perform things you'd usually need a
JDK for.
