If your source files belong to a package, you can put them as far down some tree as you like, so long as you point up to (but not including) the directory where the package structure begins. In other words, you can have: /rootdir/sub1/sub2/subN... so long as eventually you get to test/foo/*.java, for .java files declared to be part of the test.foo package, and you point to the directory the "test" directory lives in.
