Then don't you want ${helper} on the classpath, not the sourcepath? In
other words, use:

  <target name="compile" depends="init">
    <javac srcdir="${src}" destdir="${temp}">
      <classpath>
        <pathelement location="${helper}"/>
      </classpath>
    </javac>
  </target>
