it showed up when i build ant. but JUnitTask is not in the jar, so this is 
the problem. i need to get a good optional.jar

the one on win98 is about twice as big. (i downloaded that, but afaict, i 
never did anything with it). don't quite know how it worked on the windoze 
system.

but this was the problem. the up-to-date optional.jar is on the page where 
the binaries are, so i never put it on the linux box since i was 
downloading source! except for having "." instead of "build" in the path, 
there were no other problems.
