Subject RE: Weird XML Error

Sorry, I did spot that error shortly after my post, but after checking it
didn't affect the problem decided against reposting.

Having said that I have now discovered the problem!

The XML editor I was using (VS.NET Beta 2, in fact) was using a file format
that clearly upset the built in parser (jaxp?). The offending format
(viewable from File->Advanced Save Options) was "Unicode (UTF-8 with
signature) codepage 65001". I changed it to the "without signature"
equivalent and all was fine.

I was caught out because I was using a combo of Notepad and VS.NET, and the
way VS.NET occasionally changed the file format was very subtle, thus
appearing erratic.

Beware flashy xml editors!

Anyway, thanks for your response. The great support from this list
continues to amaze me!

Not quite. Try this
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
<project name="integration" default="info" basedir="..">
  <description>integrate and test application on a single
	<target name="init" description="initialisation routines and
		<tstamp />

	<target name="info" depends="init" description="print info about
your build
		<echo message="OS Name:                ${}" />
		<echo message="OS Version:             ${os.version}" />
		<echo message="" />

The project element does not have a description attribute. However, I'm
doubtful that this will solev your problem as it seems to be an XML parser
issue. Are you using the standard Ant parser (crimson) or another. What JDK
are you running? Can you please run ant -debug if this still occurs and let
us know of anything interesting.
