As an add on, the JVM will pick up all class files in your classpath.

So, 
if you have 
/lib/myFirst.jar
/lib/myOther.jar
/classes/ClassA.class
/classes/ClassB.class
/classes/ClassC.class

To include the jars on your classpath, you must explicitly enumerate 
them with
CLASSPATH=/lib/myFirst.jar;/lib/myOther.jar

To include the non-jarred files, simply tell classpath what directory 
to look at
CLASSPATH=/classes/

The JVM will not read a directory looking for JAR files. You need to
specify each JAR file(s) inidividually in your CLASSPATH variable.
