I think that is the issue. I'm not setting ssdir correctly. The VSS database
is on another machine and I must not be mapping it correctly.

Try running this command at a command prompt 

ss dir $/agent/dca3.2 

You should see a listing of the files in your dca3.2 project.  If you don't,
then get a listing of the $/agent project, and so on.  If you can't find the
agent project, then the SSDIR variable is probably pointing to the wrong
SourceSafe database.

I have tried the login, I have a usename but I never need a password hwn 
accessinf VSS. I beleive the account info. is thew same(mine).
