Ant runs Javac in Ant's VM, so in addition to the javac classes, you have
Ant's own classes. I don't think its a huge memory overhead but maybe it is
enough to tip your compilation over the edge. You can set the JAVACMD
environment variable to increase Ant's memory

setting JAVACMD=java -Xmx256m

should do it. (assuming a Windows system with JDK 1.2+, adjust as
appropriate for other systems and memory sizes)
