Thanks, I understand the problem a little better now.  It only happens when
I'm in Cygwin's bash shell on NT.  It works fine when I run Ant from a plain
old "DOS" window.  I'll keep trying things.

The first thing I do in my batch file which runs ant is to clear out all the
paths and then to set them to exactly what they need to be.
