What you see are threads, native threads to be precise. Linux ps is not smart enough to distinguish between processes and threads (which are quite similar to processes in the kernel's view). Sun's 1.2.2 defaults to green threads, IBM's VMs always defaulted to native threads, probably the Sun's Hotspot VM (1.3beta) uses native threads as well - but I haven't checked that. Stefan
