Agreed. Adding a dependency for pom parsing would not be a good thing, Now that our default public repo is maven 2 one, it would almost be a mandatory dependency, which we have always manage to avoid. And for the invalid xml problem, I really hope maven guys will do something about it, using something else than an XML parser to parse "XML-like" data like poms is a non sense to me.
