The endorsed standards stuff just to pick the correct classes to
compile against?  Strange.  I could understand if it was causing
problem while running the transformations, but just using javac?

Sun's JDK5 and later have repacked Xalan-J (somewhere under com.sun
IIRC) so there should only be one version of the Xalan classes for
javac to pick up.

My best guess is that Apple is not repackaging Xalan in their Java VM.
