I don't think this is a bug in Ant. OpenSSL will generally not accept passphrase 
input from stdin unless you explicitly allow it. It defaults to reading from
the console.

Try adding:

   <arg value="-passout"/>
   <arg value="stdin"/>

to the task and see if that does the trick for you.
