Perhaps, for consistency's sake, but don't you agree nonetheless that failing 
in such a case is the right thing to do? If the logic of the build file expect 
something to be in .., if there is no such parent directory since already in 
the root directory, something's wrong, and the current error message is very 
explicit and tons better IMHO than silently equating . to .. because in the 
root dir.

I would be -0 and almost -1 on such a change. --DD
