Sorry for taking so long to respond to this request.
In ant 1.6.2, this feature can now be achieved by using an
embedded mapper.

    <pathconvert targetos="unix" property="x">
      <path>
        <fileset dir="." includes="*.xml"/>
      </path>
      <mapper type="flatten"/>
    </pathconvert>
    <echo>files are ${x}</echo>

ouputs:
build.xml
So there does not need to be an attribute - so I am
closing this as a WONTFIX (I suppose it should be FIXED
as the feature is implemented?)
