Oh, duh.  Sorry, I had already tested this problem in 1.6.2, apparently.

At this point it still seems that the jar task in Ant produces JAR files that
can break under certain (obviously rare, edge case) circumstances with Java
1.4.1, 1.4.2, or 1.5.0 beta.
