javac is requireing srcdir even with nested <src> elements

Summary: javac is requireing srcdir even with nested <src>
                    elements
           Product: Ant
           Version: 1.6.1
          Platform: Other
        OS/Version: Other
            Status: NEW
          Severity: Normal
          Priority: Other
         Component: Core tasks
        AssignedTo: dev@ant.apache.org
        ReportedBy: matthew_pocock@yahoo.co.uk

I've tried to use nested <src> elements with javac - I have to compile sources
from multiple directories (don't ask). However, javac is requireing me to
include a srcdir attribute. The documentation states that you supply one or the
other.
