record task logfile has wildly inaccurate duration

           Summary: record task logfile has wildly inaccurate duration
           Product: Ant
           Version: 1.5.4
          Platform: PC
        OS/Version: Windows NT/2K
            Status: NEW
          Severity: Normal
          Priority: Other
         Component: Core tasks
        AssignedTo: dev@ant.apache.org
        ReportedBy: john_mcdonnell@yahoo.com

The following Ant XML file:

<?xml version="1.0"?>
<project name="invalid_duration" default="main">
    <target name="main" depends="" description="">
		<record name="broken_append_default.log" loglevel="verbose" append="yes"/>
	</target>
</project>

executes in a second or two on my system, but the log file records:

main: duration 17861748 minutes 41 seconds

BUILD SUCCESSFUL

Note the duration is off by about 34 years.
