You are going to get embarrassed. 

The way to include one or more packages, while retaining base dir information is
to use the includes attributes to specify a subdir tree to include

<jar jarfile="package.dir" basedir="${build}" includes="com/clinphone/stuff/**" />

For more complex problems nest <fileset> declarations inside the jar task. 

Marking as invalid, and strongly encouraging user participation in the ant user
mail list the next time a similar problem is encountered.
