You are correct, but changing it the way you suggest would probably break existing
build files.  If we changed the DateFormat it would fail to parse strings that are
valid in the SHORT format, at least I think so.

I'll play around with it (maybe tryong to parse the MEDIUM format and fall back to
SHORT on an exception or something like this).
