I understand your point but honestly there's a bug in the JDK 1.4 regex 
classes, do you expect me to do a workaround in the regex wrappers so that it 
works ok ? Unlikely I guess.

I agree the fix is small though, but I would expect someone to come up next 
year and tell me it is too slow with massive sequential transformation and 
that we should reuse transformers. :)

What version of Xalan are you using ? It would also be better to try to fix 
this one if it is still a problem with the latest Xalan version. I feel like 
it is around for ages and if I remember well I have a testcase for that that 
does about 1000 transformations (sorry it's too late..hem early to look for it 
right now, will try to think about it tomorrow)
