public class Constants {
  public static final Wigget THE_WIGET;
  public static final Googedly GOOK;

  static {
    try {
      THE_WIGET = new Wigget();
      GOOK = new Googedly();
    }
    catch (Exception e) {
      System.out.println("Could not initialize");
    }
  }
}

Actually this is a quite useful pattern, which I have
seen in many places.
