OK, <http://www.w3.org/TR/1998/REC-xml-19980210#charsets> is rather clear, &#x0;
is illegal in XML documents, so we probably need to patch DOMElementWriter
to exclude certain characters completely.

This in turn means that we may be losing information inside the logfile. Any idea
what we should do about this, except documenting it?
