Why do we need property expansion on the <style> task? It makes very little sense
to me. What is next? Property expansion on the <javac> task? 

As I said <style> already has a way to pass information from the build (i.e., <param>)
that should be more than enough. Can you showme a particular scenario
where you cannot accomplish what you need by using this mechanism or
combining it with things like <replace> etc.?
