So long as the JDK produces Java2-compliant .class files and bytecode (which
all of the Sun-released JDKs do, as well as the IBM-released ones), you can
use any development tool you can get your hands on. IBM even makes a Java
compiler written in C, called "jikes", that's amazingly fast and an
often-used replacement for the Sun JDK javac compiler.
