Thanks for the response.  I am still doing some extra "due-diligence" on
this, as my main concern is that *something* in the IBM JDK may do
something differently (performance for one)

The more I think about it, I can see why it probably doesn't make much
difference as whatever JDK you use it still needs to generate 1.2 level
byte code.  The only difference has to be how efficiently the JDK helps
implement certain pieces.

Closer than that, even. You should be fine to use any JDK to compile
with. If you use a very recent one you may want to make it target
1.2-level bytecodes (although with 1.4 that's the default anyway).
