propertyfile optional task puts slashes in values

Summary: propertyfile optional task puts slashes in values
           Product: Ant
           Version: 1.4.1
          Platform: All
        OS/Version: Other
            Status: NEW
          Severity: Normal
          Priority: Other
         Component: Optional Tasks
        AssignedTo: ant-dev@jakarta.apache.org
        ReportedBy: eyaly@e4x.com

when value of an entry in propertyfile contain '=' or ':' the result property file will have
a
slash before those characters.
According to java doc (in page http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3/docs/api/java/util/Properties.html

look for store method) only keys are rewriten ("The key and value characters #, !, =, and
: are
written with a preceding slash to ensure that they are properly loaded") but not values.

It seems like values are allowed to have those characters with out preceding slash.
Why do you add those slashes ?
