There is no way to determine the current file permissions from within Java,
therefore Ant cannot determine (and later restore) them, sorry.

As for the ZIP task in Ant 1.4 - yes it explicitly sets the execute permissions
for directories, but it does so because it know that they are directories, not
because it had access to the original permissions.
